" Until," I said, "either the philosophers shall be made kings in states, or those who are now called kings and potentates shall attain to the fullness of true philosophy, and until this union of political power and philosophy in the same person shall be effected, while the many natures who now pursue either to the exclusion of the other are compelled to desist from their course, there will be no relief,
