And so he started digging away behind the dune, putting the sand into packets, and selling it to mothers all over the island. And in fact, the sand was so good that it was not long before Rock-a-bye started getting rich.
As soon as he found that he had plenty of money to spare, he decided to do something that he had wanted to do ever since he was a child : he bought himself a trumpet and a drum.
And he began to play....
The sand dune woke with a jump at the terrible noise.
" Oh, heavens!" cried the rat, the grasshopper and the spider. "The dune will start moving again!"
Fortunately the dune did not move. It was still so sleepy that it didn't even notice that Rock-a-bye had dug away half the sand from behind it.
