About eight o'clock the household would be absorbed in the important function of having and serving dinner. The maids would be upstairs putting the bedrooms ready for the night, and the way would be clear downstairs in the library. It was a simple thing for Taylor to shin the wall with the aid of Henrotin's shoulders, then to pull his pal up after him. Once inside the garden they slunk across the lawn in the shadow of the trees, and soon stood by the long French windows which opened out from the library. Again they thought how too absurdly easy it all was !
