One time Artie came home with a box under his arm and he said mother I'm taking out my best girl to dinner tonight and then he ran up to his room and after about an hour he came down again and I must say I hardly knew him. So Artie said he was going to take her out to dinner first and then to the theatre and then afterwards he guessed he'd have to take her to a supper. Oh Artie I said won't it cost a lot and he laughed and said pretty near a week's salary.
He was so excited and happy.
But he said I'll have to get busy and think of some way to be earning more than forty-five dollars a week. Oh Artie I said that's a wonderful salary for a boy. So Artie said a boy! and then he said don't forget mother I'm twenty-four already and I certainly won't get very far towards marrying Alice on forty-five a week. And he looked a little worried when he said it.
In the meantime I wasn't working so hard at the sewing any more because the doctor said I mustn't because for a long
