ashamed because he pulled out two dollars from his pocket and he said here ma you take these and they'll help to pay for the books and I tell you what I'll get a job and I'll go to work and I'll give you all my money.
Now I thought everything is going to be all right for Danny. And sure enough he got a job in a real estate office as an office boy and when he came home the first.night he said he liked it fine. I let him wear his graduation suit to work so he would feel good. He got five and a half dollars a week. The first week he gave me three dollars. The next week he said he had some money to pay back to one of the fellows and he gave me only a dollar. Then after that some weeks he gave me two dollars or one dollar or maybe nothing and sometimes he asked me for a dollar in the middle of the week.
In June Beatty and jenny graduated together because Beatty was skipped twice but Jenny was never left back. Jenny was thirteen and a half and Beatty was twelve and a half and I wondered what they should do now. Jenny said right away she would take the three year course in high school in stenography and typewriting but Beatty said she wanted to try to go to college and so she wanted to take the re ar high school course but she said she was going to try to get finished in three years like Artie was trying to do. And that summer Beatty minded a baby afternoons and I saved the money for her so she could have some clothes when high school started. Jenny stayed home and was a wonderful help to me.
And Danny worked right through the whole summer and first he got a raise to six dollars a week and then he got a raise to six and a half dollars and he was getting along fine.
