Mothers Cry

The children looked lovely all the girls in white and all the boys in dark blue and Artie looked so handsome.
First all the children sang and then the principal read the Bible and then a girl read a composition she wrote and another girl played the piano and a boy played the violin. And then the principal made a long speech telling the children how they were on the threshold of life and mustn't shirk their responsibilities and then he said and now we will award the prizes. The first prize goes to a young man about whom I cannot say enough in praise. His will be a brilliant future which will be a blessing to all mankind we are sure. Arthur Williams will you please step forward.
Artie was so surprised he stumbled over everybody's legs getting out and was all red. Then the principal pinned a little gold medal on his coat and he spoke some more. Not only is his character constructive but his ability equals his impulses. If you will look about you on the walls you will notice pictures and designs executed by him with perfect precision as well as artistic sense. And that admirable border that now encircles the auditorium is the work of none other than this young man. His was the conception and under his inspiration his fellow classmates with great eagerness helped to execute the difficult task. And he was no easy taskmaster for nothing short of perfection would satisfy him and I want to close by hoping that in all his life nothing short of perfection will ever satisfy him.
I couldn't help it but I was crying when I was going out but I was so happy and so proud. Artie came to me right away and showed me the medal and I kissed him and he didn't mind.
When we got home Danny said pooh I don't believe it's worth even five dollars.
