One day at the end of the month the children came home all excited from school and they said the prinicpal had given them all a very serious talk on how they must all work because they love to work and that they mustn't work just to get good report cards and he said tomorrow when the report cards were going to be given out they were going to be put in a sealed envelope and nobody must open them except the parents and that it would be a wonderful exercise in honor for the children for them not to open them and not to care what marks they got so long as they knew they had done their best.
The children all got their' cards the next day and brought them home at lunch time. Danny, had opened his and so had Artie because Artie said the principal was an old hypocrite and was making them all bad by wanting them to do what they couldn't do. Jenny didn't open hers because she always did what she was told but Beatty didn't open hers because the day before she had gotten one of her good fits and she said she was going to try to be honorable and worthy.
