Mothers Cry

said good night and he asked me to say good night dear too so I did.
I could hardly sleep all that night. I couldn't understand how so many beautiful things could happen to me to Mary Knight.

Five
ON SUNDAY when Frank came mama asked him when did he think we ought to get married and Frank said he would surely get a raise this New Years and then it would be nice to get married in May or June and I thought it would be nice too to be a June bride. Mama said yes that would give us time to get things ready like clothes and sewing for the house and she said she would give us a hundred dollars towards our home. Mama said she saved it out of my wages so it really belonged to me and Frank would have plenty of expenses anyhow. So Frank thanked her very much and we set the day for June fifth. Then mama said and I don't think you need to have a big wedding. You had a big engagement party and it would be better to save the money and spend it on the house. You never get back in presents what a party costs because folks always give silly things that sometimes you can't use. If only they would give pots and pans instead of tea sets and doilies. So Frank said yes we could get carpets for the floor for what a party would cost and so they decided we'd just go to the church to be married and come home to dinner to mama's.
