And then it got to be late and even the young people began to go home and we found Jamey had hung a piece of mistletoe over the door and the ones who found out pulled over the ones who didn't know and kissed them and said ssh don't tell. But everybody knew in the end and everybody was kissing everybody else all in fun. And while everybody was standing there all dressed and ready to go home Jerry got up on a chair and made a speech. He said he knew he was speaking for everybody when he said they had all had the best time of their lives and now they wanted to wish us a happy life together Frank and me because Frank was one of the finest and I was the sweetest and gentlest girl he knew and if Frank hadn't got there first he would surely have courted me and everybody laughed at that. And then he got serious and he said never did any approaching marriage augur such marital felicity and we may all be sure that this union will require only the blessing of children to make it a paradise and to make it an example for all others. Then everybody clapped and cheered and Jerry said now let us all wish this happy couple a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and every blessing on earth and everybody shouted Merry Christmas and everybody kissed everybody else and everybody was so happy but I was the happiest of all.
Frank stayed until the last and mama left us alone.
