frame. It was a painted picture and it was called A Woodland Scene. And I got a green plush picture album. And I got two ash trays all made of cigar bands. Oh it was all so wonderful I felt I was living in a fairy story and I thought I could never be any happier than I was right then. But I was happier because the best of all was still coming.
Jerry who was Frank's best friend said now everybody please quiet because Frank here is going to present his gift to our lovely Mary. And so everybody laughed and then quieted down and Frank took out a small purple plush box from his pocket and opened it and took out the engagement ring and in front of everybody he put it on my finger. It was a real diamond! I couldn't stand any more and I began laughing and crying and everybody kissed me and Frank kissed me and everybody was picking up my hand and looking at the ring and saying it was a beauty and it was too because it was nearly a carat and it was set so high I used to have to take it off to put my gloves on. Everybody was talking at once and carrying on and saying such nice things and all the time I felt I was the happiest and luckiest girl in all the world and oh I loved Frank I did I did.
It was a wonderful party. We played games and when we played postmaster and I went into the hall with Frank he kissed me on the mouth and it was the first time but Frank said now we are engaged and it's all right. Then somebody stuck their head out of the door to see us and Frank laughed and said rubber and everybody laughed. Then we all went into the dining room and everybody ate and ate and everybody said they never tasted such good things to eat and that they were stuffed and I guess they were because there was hardly a crumb left after they went home.
