MY DEAR FRIEND,
... Julia writes from Florence that all are quite gay there. Austrian uniforms, no doubt, produce this effect on the ladies. Hamilton' has given a grand entertainment to the officers. This has brought several censures on him, not only from the Liberals abroad, but also from Lord Palmerston I hear. Never was anything so atrocious as the conduct of the French Government towards the Italians generally, but more especially towards the Romans.' I hope my old friend Louis Napoleon will meet with the deserts of his villainy, and that all the
