PRIVATE LETTERS 1838 - 1839

Fairest in form and highest in estate,
Of all our wide-spread western lands contain, I see thee lovely and scarce hope thee great,
And almost wish thy talents shone in vain.
I have sent these to Rose but not the
You will have left Bath before my return on the first of next month. Remember me to James (1) when you write to him, and tell him i shall very soon have another copy of my book for him.-Believe me,

WARWICK, 12th June[1839]
DEAR ROSE,
I have been spending a fortnight in London and a week at Warwick, to which place your letter was sent after me. Yesterday the third sister of the Prior's was married at Leamington. Mrs Prior did me the honour to invite me, but my cousin Mrs Shuckburgh had promised to come over in the morning, and in a day or two I return with her to Birlingham.(2) The Priors do not very much like their residence. Leamington once belonged to my mother's great

2 Landor's brother, the Rev. Robert Eyres Landor, was rector of Hafford with Birlingham. He died Jan. 26, 1869.
