This gave the rogue control of the child, of whom, of course, no one as yet knew. He was such a shady character that it placed the woman `beyond the pale' of further consideration ; and played into the hands of Carl's grandfather, who was then on the throne. So they drifted into obscurity. They were forgotten-till a short while ago when, like a bombshell, I learned of
