Hitherto, this sad and lonely girl's whole life had been bound about with conventions and hedged in by restrictions. Then suddenly she found herself free to follow whither her heart led her ; and it had been a wonderful experience. But when she left him that afternoon, after a delightful hour in those quaint surroundings-listening to all the wonderful things he had to say, she did not know what a terrible blow Fate had in store ! It had been most delightful listening to all the beautiful ideas he was able to express so well ; and watching the ever changing expressions of his virile face as it reflected his every thought. She was always mystified, however, by his fickle memory. He seemed quite able to remember all his wonderful experiences in the many places he had visited ; but he appeared to have entirely lost all knowledge of his own identity. Yet, though this worried her, and she realised that one day she would have to face the situation, she was completely carried away by the magic of his charming tales ; and surrendered to the magnetic appeal of his wonderful eyes.
