THE LETTERS AGAIN

Prince. Then gradually the victim of their foolishness began to show signs of recovery. He was completely dazed for all that.
" He's coming round," whispered Ajax. "Pick up those letters and push the cushions straight. We don't want him to see the room all upside down. It may set him off again."
Bunny hastily began to put the cushions back on the chairs ; and then reached down for the letters which were scattered all over the desk and floor. It was not any fault of his that his eye caught sight of a small, but magnificent, coat of arms emblazoned on one of them. His curiosity got the upper hand at once (for a thought had struck him), and he turned over to the signature. It was that of Her Majesty the Queen of Bulkrania ! Bunny could make no mistake, for he had seen it several times before ; nor could there be any doubt of that flourishing hand! He was amazed at his discovery. How glad he was, too! Carl had recovered his mother's letters. He saw that the rest of the heap were all in the same handwriting. There, too, was the silk ribbon which had evidently bound them. How had Carl managed to get them back? Had the thief returned them? Had that thief been Ivan-or who? Bunny paused for a moment on his knees as an idea struck him. Had these letters ever been stolen at all? Might it not have been just a leg pull on Carl's part? If so, it might be fun to pretend that he had not noticed whose the letters were ; and then the joke would be against Carl after all. He turned to find the Prince just opening his eyes. The strained look of terror was still in them.
" Where am I?" he cried wildly. "Have they found: him? "
