THE LETTERS AGAIN

They tip-toed gently up the creaky old stairs with many pauses for breath. It took them quite a while ; for they were both bottled up with mirth. Carl half swung round in his chair with a dreadful look of terror on his face ; then tumbled over sideways in a crumpled heap on the floor.
They were both horrified at what they had done, and just for a moment were stricken completely dumb with fright. They could scarcely move !
" Hi! come on!" cried Ajax, who was the first to recover. " Get him onto that sofa. Keep his head down."
" My aunt!" gasped Bunny. "I'll never forgive myself for this. We ought to have known that he couldn't stand it. It must be the result of that beastly poison business."
" Oh, he'll be all right in a moment," said Ajax, half hopefully-and half dreading that he would not. "Here! pass that soda water."
